19th Century Italian Grand Tour Bronze Figure of Dancing Faun on Marble Base
VRAMYAN INTERIORS LOS ANGELES, CA Item Description: Fine quality 19th century Italian Grand Tour bronze Figure of Dancing Faun of Pompei, raised on the detailed marble pedestal. Fine bronze, classical base with black and red marble pedestal. Dimensions: Height 17" x Width 6.5" x Depth 5. Appears in good condition, the marble pedestal shows sign of wear, and minor chips around the edges. The Dancing Faun was discovered on October 26, 1830 in the ruins of the most opulent Roman home discovered at Pompeii: the House of the Faun, as it later became known, which was also home to the Alexander Mosaic. The Faun is thought to be either a 2nd-century Greek original, or a very high-quality Roman copy. CONDITION: Marble bases each have a few very tiny chips on their corners; pieces are in otherwise great condition. Thank you for your attention to the listing above.
